(Badminton) Kian Meng-Pei Jing ride their luck to qualify for Vietnam Open final

KUALA LUMPUR: It was yet another lucky win for Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing who reached the final of the Vietnam Open today.

The Malaysian mixed doubles had to work hard before notching a narrow 23-21, 21-19 score over second seeds Hafiz Faisal-Shella Devi Aulia of Indonesia in the last four stage.

The final tomorrow will be Kian Meng-Pei Jing's fourth this year. They had previously reached the finals of the Malaysia Masters, Polish Open and Taiwan Open.

"I don't want to say this but it is still not our best performance. In the quarter-finals I played better but not Kian Meng.

"In the semi-finals today, I didn't play well but Kian Meng rescued the day. I hope we can pull through one more match and win our first international title.

"The pressure is there, because it is our fourth final this year. I am trying to not think too much," said Pei Jing when contacted in Ho Chi Minh.

Kian Meng-Pei Jing, will play another Indonesian pair Alfian Eko Prasetya-Annisa Saufika for the crown.

Alfian-Annisa had defeated Taiwan's Tseng Min Hao-Hsieh Pei Shan 18-21, 21-19, 21-16 in the semi-finals.

In men's singles, independent shuttler Chong Wei Feng saw off Indonesia's Firman Abdul Kholik 21-19, 21-15.

Wei Feng, who quit the BA of Malaysia (BAM) in May will play Hong Kong's Vincent Wong in the final. Vincent had beaten Taiwan's Lin Yu Hsien 21-11, 21-17.

It was the end of the road, however, for women's singles Soniia Cheah who went down 21-17, 21-12 to Singapore's Yeo Jia Min.

Jia Min, plays Japan's Ayumi Mine who stunned top seed Hsu Ya Ching of Taiwan 21-16, 8-21, 21-12, in the final.
