(Football) Felda United arrest late Police fightback for 2-1 win

KUALA LUMPUR: Felda United slashed Super League leaders Johor Darul Ta'zim's advantage back to two points after staving off a late fightback by Police to win 2-1 in Malacca on Saturday.

Darul Ta'zim, who edged Sarawak 2-1 on Friday, have 36 points from 14 matches in their pursuit of a third straight Super League title with Felda their main challengers.

Selangor are a distant third on 26 points after a 1-1 draw with Penang at the City Stadium while Kedah are fourth on 19 points after a 1-0 win over Kuala Terengganu T-Team in Alor Star.

Kelantan dropped to fifth after being held by lowly Pahang 0-0 in Kota Baru.

Perak, who started the evening in 11th place, lifted themselves out of the relegation zone and up to eighth place by beating Terengganu 2-0 in Ipoh.

Felda recovered from Wednesday's 1-0 loss at home to Terengganu in the Malaysia Cup in fine style at the Hang Jebat Stadium where they led 2-0 after an hour.

Lutfulla Turaev turned in Gilbero Alemao's cross in the 35th minute for the opener before Francis Doe bagged his 11th goal of the season after being set-up by Ahmad Syamim Yahya.

But Soulaymane Konate reduced the arrears for Police with 15 minutes remaining to ensure a nervy finale for Felda.

Penang stunned Selangor by taking the lead through Jeong Seok-min in the 26th minute but Patrick Wleh drew the visitors level seven minutes later by heading in Mauro Olivi's cross.

Kenny Pallraj scored his first senior goal with a 25-meter screamer to set Perak on their way to victory after 26 minutes before Elias Fernades De Oliveira added a second in the 78th minute.

Heavy rain delayed kick-off in George Town and Alor Star but it was Kedah who made the most of the conditions to come away with three points.

After Halim Shaari saw a fiercely-struck shot hit the crossbar and Shane Smeltz had a header cleared off the line, Kedah finally found a breakthrough against T-Team five minutes after the break.

New Zealand international Smeltz swivelled to volley the ball in for his first league goal after Syafiq Ahmad stylishly pulled the ball back from Rizal Ghazali's cross.
