Penang PKR lawmakers to attend special meeting tomorrow on snap polls

GEORGE TOWN: All 10 PKR lawmakers in Penang have been told to attend a special meeting by the party’s central committee in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow tonight.

State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang said the special meeting on the proposed snap polls specifically required the state PKR assemblymen to attend.

“Things will be a little clearer after the meeting to see what the conclusion (from PKR) is," he said, after paying his last respects to the late Puan Sri Chui Kah Peng, wife of former Penang Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon.

Chui died of cancer on Sunday.

Law also denied that PKR has the final say on whether snap polls would be held in the state, stressing that the final decision would be a collective one with consent from its coalition partners in Pakatan.

“Since PKR and Parti Amanah Negara are in Pakatan, it is only fair to have the three parties (including DAP) have the final consensus.

“Each party may have its (own) stand; we have to go back to Pakatan (to reach a final consensus),” he said.

Asked if PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail would announce the party's stand today, Law said she would surely announce something to the public.

“The details of the announcement will depend on the outcome of the meeting,” he added.
