Ringgit opens lower against US dollar

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit was lower against the US dollar in early trade today as more investors shifted to safe haven currencies on a bullish outlook over the upcoming US Federal Reserve meeting, said a dealer.

At 9 am, the local unit was quoted at 4.0820/0860 against the US dollar from 4.0620/0700 on Monday.

The local unit traded mixed against a basket of major currencies.

It strengthened against the British pound to 5.3425/3494 from 5.3448/3561 on Monday, while weakening against the Singapore dollar to 2.9962/3.0009 from 2.9857/9920.

The local unit was also down against the yen at 3.8936/8985 from 3.8216/8302 and depreciated against the euro to 4.4829/4889 from 4.4641/4746. -- Bernama
