ICU director charged with two counts of corruption [VIDEO]

GEORGE TOWN: A director in the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) was charged with two counts of corruption and using his power for gratification at the Sessions Court here today.

Mohd Nor Rejab, 54, claimed trial to both charges under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and Section 165 of the Penal Code.

On the first court, Mohd Nor, who was then a sector head in the state Education Department, is alleged to have used his position for gratification by acknowledging a payment voucher to provide lab coats to schools in the state, worth RM26,162.50, to Syarikat Nur Ehsan Maju Enterprise, which he had an interest in.

He allegedly committed the offence at the state Education Department in the middle of 2013.

On the second count, Mohd Noor is alleged to have agreed to receive a sum of RM24,656 without getting any reciprocation from one Syed Mohamed Mohamed Farook, who had an official working relationship with him, at the Maybank branch in Penang Road on Oct 24, 2013.

He was represented by counsels A. Ashok and Abdul Fareed Gafoor while Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Ghazali Muhamad Nadzri from the MACC prosecuted.

Judge Irwan Suaibon set bail at RM15,000 with one surety and fixed Aug 30 for mention.
