A+SEAN fest for all ages

THE opening weekend of the George Town Festival features a two-day A+SEAN showcase offering a mix of fashion, arts and culture.

Featuring some of the best talents from Australia and Southeast Asia, the event will be held at the Esplanade on July 30 and 31 from 4pm to midnight. The highlight is a concert featuring some of the hottest regional artistes such as Indonesian band Nidji, whose Liberty Victoria single was used as the Manchester United anthem in 2013, and Datuk Sheila Majid, whose hits like Sinaran and Antara Anyer dan Jakarta, are internationally known.

Other performers include rising star Raisa Adriana, whose music videos on YouTube have received more than nine million hits each, hip-hop artistes Joe Flizzow and SonaOne, Bittersweet, OAG, Dasha Logan, Bihzhu and Ocean of Fire.

Showing off how cool science can really be are the Strandbeests, giant PVC skeletons created by Dutch scientist Theo Jansen. The Strandbeests (beach animals in Dutch) have no motors but can “walk” like mammals, thanks to a unique feat of engineering, powered by the wind.

They will be joined by the Snuff Puppets from Australia, showing off the human body in its myriad forms. There will also be a fashion show featuring Jonathun Yun’s stunning nature-inspired jewellery with Indonesian designer Arya Mahadewa’s apparel.

Get your Go card for 20 per cent discounts on all merchandise and tickets, when you buy an A+SEAN ticket. While the yellow Go card allows you a one-day pass, the red card comes with a two-day pass.

For advanced purchases, the ticket prices are RM30 for a one-day entry and RM50 for a two-day entry. At the door, the one-day entry is RM35 and the two-day entry is RM65.
