Two doctors plead guilty to falsifying medical reports

IPOH: Two doctors from two private clinics today pleaded guilty to falsifying medical reports of applicants taking the Road Transport Department's vocational driving licence, three years ago.

Dr Fong Hon Pin@Poon Hon Pin, 68, and Dr Phuah Chye Thuang, 62, pleaded guilty in front of Sessions judge S. Indra Nehru at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission special court here today.

They were fined RM10,000 each in default of six months jail.

The duo, who were charged on Jan 5, had committed the offence on March 7, 2013.

Dr Fong had committed the offence at Kampung Simee, Ipoh, and Dr Phuah in Gerik.

They were charged under Section 465 of the Penal Code with corruption punishable under Section 465 of the same code, which carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both upon conviction.

They had declared that they had examined their patients (licence applicants) and passed them as fit to drive public vehicles.

However, it was alleged that no evaluation was carried out on the patients to support the documents that were required for the licence renewal under the RTD.

MACC deputy public prosecutor Nurul Wahidah Jalalluddin prosecuted.
