SPM candidate by day, drug dealer by night

KUALA TERENGGANU: A 17-year-old, due to sit for his Siil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination this year, received a harsh lesson when he was arrested for possessing almost RM200,000 worth of drugs on Monday.

The teenager was nabbed following a raid by the Kuala Terengganu police anti-narcotics division at his home in Kampung Dalam, Kedai Buluh.

The secondary school student was asleep when police raided the home at 11am. The raid was done after a three-month observation.

State Narcotics Department Chief Superintendent Roslan Tahir said police seized 12,900 methamphetamine pills weighing 1269.33 grammes.

The drugs, in three packets, were all hidden behind a rack in his room.

Roslan said the drugs had a street value of almost RM200,000. They were believed to be meant for the local market,

‘We believe the boy had been a drug distributor in the Kuala Terengganu and Chendering areas over the last three months,” he said.

Roslan said police have identified the syndicate’s mastermind but have yet to make an arrest.

The teenager has been remanded at the Kuala Terengganu police station for a week.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 for trafficking, which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
