(Football) Two years ban for two for doping

KUALA LUMPUR: Two Super League footballers have been banned for two years by the Football Association of Malaysia for doping offences on Thursday.

The national body's disciplinary committee said on Thursday Police forward Shafiq Jamal, 28, and Perak winger Firdaus Saiyadi, 19, were found guilty of an anti-doping violation and banned from all football activities for two years beginning June 9.

The two players both tested positive for an unnamed banned substance, believed to be recreational drugs, after providing samples following a Super League match on May 4 at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Malacca.

Firdaus, who is also a national Under-23 player, and Shafiq have both been dropped from their respective teams after FAM announced a temporary suspension on June 13.

Police coach Fauzi Pilus previously said he is confident the case involving Shafiq, who is not a regular starter for the team, is an isolated one.
