Serdang policeman dies after accidentally shot in the head by colleague

SERDANG: A 57-year-old policeman was killed after his colleague accidentally shot him while emptying his gun.

Serdang district police chief assistant Commisioner Megat Mohd Aminuddin Megat Alias said the incident happened at a weapon storage facility at the Serdang police headquarters.

"The 32-year-old lance corporal, attached to the weapon storage facility, was in the midst of emptying the gun.

"He cocked it and pulled the trigger (as per normal procedure) to empty it but did not realise there was another bullet in the chamber.

"The bullet struck the sergeant, who was inspecting patrol cars about 70 metres away.

"The bullet struck the back of the policeman's head and penetrated his brain," he said.

The victim was rushed to the Serdang Hospital. It is believed that he died on the treatment table.

Megat said police would conduct a thorough investigation, but did not rule out negligence as the cause of the incident.
