(Football) T-Team keep Malaysia Cup hopes alive with Sarawak win

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Terengganu T-Team revived their Malaysia Cup knockout stage qualification hopes with a 2-0 win over Sarawak in Kuching on Friday.

Patrick Dos Santos Cruz struck twice in the second half to give T-Team their first win in Group A, which lifted the club up to second place on four points.

They trail group leaders Kedah, who were held to a 0-0 draw by Premier League side Johor in Alor Star, by three points. Johor, after a third successive draw, have three points and Sarawak just one.

In the other Malaysia Cup match of the night, Felda United edged Malacca 1-0 in Group D thanks to Shukor Adan's header three minutes from time.

Shukor's goal sent his home state Malacca crashing to their first home defeat of the season at the Hang Jebat Stadium and gave Felda six points from three matches.

Five more matches take place on Saturday when defending champions Selangor face Pahang in Kuantan while Kelantan host Kuala Lumpur in Kota Baru in Group B matches.

Super League leaders Johor Darul Ta'zim travel to Ipoh to face a resurgent Perak while PKNS host Police in Shah Alam in Group C.

The remaining Group D fixture sees Terengganu taking on Negri Sembilan in Kuala Terengganu.

Earlier, Afif Asyraf Zabawi scored 10 minutes before half-time in Shah Alam to give Universiti Teknologi Mara 1-0 win over Sime Darby, who remain rooted to the bottom of the Premier League standings and six points away from safety.
