Pokemon Go Malaysia server gets 'listed'

KUALA LUMPUR: Could it be the real deal? After being left out of the initial Southeast Asia listing Malaysia, finally gets its own server listed.

Netizens noticed early morning, today, that MMO Server Status (http://www.mmoserverstatus.com/pokemon_go) has listed Malaysia, among other newly listed countries, under its Pokemon Go section.

Some have even noted that the server was online earlier in the day for a short period of time before going off.

Though listed, this doesn’t confirm if and when the game will be available in the country. Many of the servers particularly the ones listed in Southeast Asia are still offline and have no official launch announcement despite being on the list a week earlier.

This however does give fans hope as Japan and Hong Kong got their official launch not long after the listing became available.

Will Malaysians finally be able to join the craze? Since its official launch in New Zealand, Australia, the US and Germany on Android and iOS on July 6, Pokemon Go, an augmented reality smartphone app game about catching Nintendo’s popular pocket monsters, has been the talk of the month in numerous subject matter – both as a digital game and social conduct.

The game has garnered more active users than the likes of Facebook, Tinder, Twitter and Snapchat since its launch.

It has also put Nintendo and game developer Niantic Incorporate under global spotlight.

After focusing on the US, Australia, New Zealand and Europe, Nintendo and Niantic have finally brought the game to Asia with the Japan and Hong Kong official launch. The game has yet to officially reach Southeast Asia though many have used unofficial methods to play the game.
