Contraband cigarettes and liquor from Langkawi worth over RM300k seized [VIDEO]

ALOR STAR: The Kedah Customs Department seized RM334,406 worth of contraband cigarettes and liquor smuggled from Langkawi.

The goods, worth RM1.151 million in tax, were found inside a tanker lorry which arrived from the island at the Kuala Kedah cargo ferry terminal at 10.10am on July 25.

Kedah Customs Department director Datuk Abdul Latif Abdul Kadir said the tanker was declared empty when it boarded the cargo ferry from the island but a scan on the vehicle revealed hidden objects.

"We found six compartments inside the tanker. Four of them were stashed with the contraband cigarettes and liquor," he said.

However, no arrests have been made.

He said the department is investigating the case under Section 135(1)(e) of the Customs Act 1967 and are looking for the owner of the tanker.
