Do not be the cause of Umno's downfall, says Najib

TAIPING: Umno members have been warned not to bring down the party at any cost, Datuk Seri Najib Razak said.

The Umno president said there may be differences in opinion, but it should not lead to the collapse of the institution.

"We can have differing views but we should resolve them amicably through a proper party system.

"Don't ever try to bring down the institution of Umno," he said in his speech when opening the Umno Bukit Gantang, Taiping, Bagan Serai and Parit Buntar divisions annual meeting here today.

Also present was state Umno chief Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir and the heads of the four divisions.

Najib said the party will outlive him.

"We must ensure that we pass on a strong institution to my successor.

"Only then can my successor bring the institution to greater heights and ensure Umno continues to be in power for a long time to come," he added.

Najib also took a swipe at those who betrayed the party, without naming names.

"These are the same people who used to call their enemies all sorts of names and now working together with them.

"Where are their principles of morality? As politician, one must have morality principles," he added.

Meanwhile, Najib also announced state Umno secretary and Umno Lenggong division chief Datuk Saarani Mohamad as the new state Umno deputy chief, succeeding Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanazlah.
