Malaysians 'break the Internet' with congratulatory messages for Pandelela, Jun Hoong

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's first medal in the Rio Olympic Games pretty much broke the Internet today with congratulatory messages by netizens and even celebrities streaming in.

The messages poured in for Cheong Jun Hoong and Pandelela Rinong, who bagged the silver medal in the women's 10m platform synchronised early this morning.

Local songstress Ning Baizura praised the achievement of the duo by congratulating them on Twitter.

Event manager and industry activist Jennifer Thompson, also expressed her joy on social media over the win.

TV host and actress Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor tweeted her joy over the achievement.

“Congrats to our diver duo Pandelela and Jun Hoong! Finally a medal for Malaysia."

Meanwhile, netizens also expressed their pride over the duo’s achievement.

“Big congratulations @Pandelela_R & Jun Hoong for that silver. We're super proud,” wrote Twitter user @Sbrinakk.

“Congratulation @Pandelela_R & Cheong Jun Hoong! Go forth & snatch more in 3m & 10m platform,” wrote Twitter user @kukokpeng.

“Woke up to great news. Congratulation Pandelela and Jun for getting silver! So proud,” wrote @hafizeverdeen.

Facebook user Prakash Nagasvara Ravo shared a memory on his wall, reminiscing over Pandelela's success in winning the bronze in the 10m diving event at the London Olympics Games in 2012.

“Four years ago with a bronze, and today (yesterday) with a silver. Malaysia is proud of you, Pandalela,“ Prakash wrote.

Pandelela's official Facebook page was flooded with thousands of comments from Malaysians after she posted a picture of her and Cheong holding their medals.
