Chronology of seven missing children since 1996

KUALA LUMPUR: The body of Noor Amila Edrus Norsham, a five-year-old boy who was reported missing in Jinjang Utara eight days ago (Aug 11) and found in a sad state in Kampung Kemensah, Hulu Kelang today is among the few cases of children who had gone missing since 1996.

Twenty years ago on Jan 15, 1996, a boy named Ting Song Seng, 9, was reported missing while waiting for a bus at Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) in Taman Rasah, Klang to go home.

To this day Ting is still not found.

Then on Aug 20, 2007, Nurin Jazlin Jazimin was reported missing after going out to a nearby night market in Section 1, Wangsa Maju.

Her mysterious disappearance was finally solved when her little naked body was discovered by a shop owner at Jalan PJS 1, Taman Petaling Utama, Petaling Jaya on Sept 17, 2007. She was allegedly sexually assaulted.

The victim was killed 24 hours before her body was found in a bag, left abandoned at a three-storey business premises in the area.

On Jan 9, 2008, Sharlinie Mohd. Nashar, 5, was reported missing while playing with her sister in a playground located some 200 metres from her house at No. 29, Jalan PJS2C/11N, Taman Medan, Petaling Jaya.

Sharlinie is still missing until today.

On March 9, 2008 an 11-year-old boy, Muhamad Asmawi Jalaludin was reported missing when he was returning home from a playground near his house at Lot 127, Rumah Banglo Kayu, Jalan Permai Tujuh.

At that time Muhamad Asmawi was said to be on his way home with a friend living in the same area near the Kerinchi Peoples’ Housing Project (PPR) flats.

Muhamad Asmawi is still missing.

On March 1, 2012, Nurul Nadirah Abdullah or better known as Dirang went missing from her house at Seri Delima Flats, Bandar Seri Alam, Johor Baharu after going out to buy instant noodles and eggs at 10.30am.

Three individuals including a couple were detained to facilitate investigations.

On March 8, her charred body was found in a pit in an abandoned housing area in Nusa Damai, Masai.

A labourer, Muidin Maidin, 26, was found guilty of murdering the victim in an oil palm plantation at Jalan Suria 47, Bandar Seri Alam between March 1 and 2, 2012 and he was sentenced to death.

On Jan 24, 2013 William Yau Zhen Zhon, 6, was found dead at Kampung Sungai Sireh jetty in Port Klang on Jan 24 after he disappeared for a week.

William was reported missing on Jan 16 at Jalan Putra Mahkota, Putra Heights, Subang Jaya when he got out of a car to look for his parents who had gone into an electrical shop.

On Nov 8, 2013, twenty-month-old Freddie Joseph was kidnapped from his mother’s home in Bangsar.

Fortunately Freddie was found tired, hungry and alone the next day at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa by a truck driver and a taxi driver who happened to be passing by the area at 12.55 noon that day.

On Nov 21, 2014, a three-year-old boy Mohd Shariqal Sidek went missing while playing in a rubber estate at Kampung Selagon, Beaufort, Sabah.

Two days later, on Nov 23, the child was found dead believed to have been murdered near Sekolah Menengah St John here, about seven kilometres from where he went missing. -- Bernama
