Peabo Bryson bringing soul to Resorts World Genting in December

KUALA LUMPUR: The silky voice of one of the most successful soul artistes of our generation is set to fill the air at Resorts World Genting on Dec 17.

American R&B and soul singer-songwriter Peabo Bryson, best known for love ballads such as Beauty And The Beast and A Whole New World, will be appearing with his guest artistes Regina Belle and Deniece Williams at the Arena of Stars at 8.30pm.

Widely recognised as one of the premier male vocalists in contemporary music, his concert, titled “Peabo Bryson, Regina Belle, Deniece Williams Greatest Hits in Genting,” is a not-to-be-missed affair especially for those who love 70s and 80s music — arguably the two best decades for music.

The 80s especially saw the emergence of sophisticated urban contemporary sounds.

Bryson, who reached his pinnacle with such songs as the Top 10 hits, Can You Stop the Rain and Treat Her Like A Lady, marked his professional debut at the age of 14, singing backup for Al Freeman and the Upsetters. For several years, he worked with hometown bands, and wrote and produced for Bang.

In 1976, he finally tasted big-time success when he released his debut album Peabo, which featured many songs composed by him.

Regina Belle’s Grammy Award-winning duet with Bryson, A Whole New World for Disney’s 1992 animated feature, Aladdin, marked one of the highest points in her career. She also enjoyed huge success for her singles, Baby Come To Me and Make It Like It Was.

A singer, who is best known for her sensuous, deep voice, began her career in the mid-1980s, releasing her debut album All By Myself in 1987. The album included her first hits, So Many Tears and Show Me The Way.

The distinctive soprano voice of Deniece Williams first ruled the airwaves in the 1970s. At her peak, Williams spent a decade at the top of the soul charts, winning acclaim for both her four-octave range and delivery style. A fixture of urban and pop radio formats in the 1980s, Williams is best known for such hits as Let’s Hear It For the Boy, one of the tracks from the movie, Footloose.

The American singer-songwriter and record producer is also a Grammy Award winner, bagging the award for the song, I Surrender in 1984, and another one for I Believe In You in 1987. Her other hit songs include Free, Silly, It’s Gonna Take a Miracle, and the Number 13 single, Baby, Baby My Love’s All For You from the 1977 album, Song Bird.

Tickets for the concert are priced between RM100 and RM490. Genting Rewards Card (GRC) members are entitled for a 10 per cent discount via Genting Point Redemption, cash or credit card, and Rewards Point, applicable to VVIP – PS2 tickets.

Admission is one ticket per person applicable to adults, children of all ages and infants.
