KOTA KINABALU: Two sisters were killed in an early morning fire, which destroyed their two-storey wooden house at Batu 27 Jalan Keningau-Tenom near here.
Firefighters found the charred remains of 15-year-old Vanessa Sim Suk Ling and 12-year-old Jaslina Sim Suk Fah in the toilet.
District Fire and Rescue Department chief Mudi Pengiran said they received a distress call at 1.13am and dispatched a team to the site.
“There were six family members in the house when the fire broke out. It may have started from the upper floor.
“We believe the two victims could have gone to the ground floor toilet to hide but failed to escape. Their parents and two other siblings survived the fire,” he said when contacted.
Mudi said the remains were taken to Keningau Hospital, adding that the department was still investigating the cause of fire.
