PM Najib takes time out to visit madrasah in Membakut, Sabah

MEMBAKUT: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak took time out from his busy schedule to visit the Madrasah Tahfiz Darul Yatama Yacob Khan here, today.

He was accompanied by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, Foreign Minister and Kimanis Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, Membakut assemblyman Datuk Mohd Ariffin Ariff and school founder Datuk Ghulam Khan Hassan.

Najib was ushered to the school's hall where he spent 25 minutes meeting and greeting the students and teachers.

In his brief speech, he praised the excellent management of the religious school, which has benefited the young people.

"This effort allows them to learn and appreciate Islam and become a role model to others.

"When we memorize the Quran, we must also appreciate the Quran...Islam is a religion of peace and justice.

"This is among the principles and pillars of Islam that is important for us to understand.

"I also pray to Allah that Sabah will continue to receive blessings and protection and that the people will continue to live in peace and harmony."

At the event, Najib presented a personal contribution to the Madrasah students before making his way to Ghulam's residence for lunch.

Established in 2012, the Madrasah had produced 10 Tahfiz quran. Currently, the school has 49 students aged between 12 and 17.

Meanwhile, Ghulam also said a new religious school was being constructed, which is expected to be operational next year.

"We also hope to build a Madrasah for girls in five years time," he said, adding the Madrasah only accept boys and 56 students for the time being.
