Indonesia invites Petronas to jointly explore new O&G block near Natuna, says Zahid

PUTRAJAYA: Indonesia has invited Petronas to jointly explore new oil and gas blocks in Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and Natuna islands.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the invitation would open new cooperation opportunities between Petronas and Indonesia state oil company Pertamina.

"Pertamina will be offering seven oil and gas blocks in the EEZ and three in Natuna Islands through an open tender.

"Petronas is now focusing on explorations within Asean for better management and reduced cost," he said after chairing a meeting with Indonesia Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan in his office today.

Meanwhile, Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) had now been allowed to directly negotiate with coal suppliers in Indonesia to ensure continuous supply of high-quality coals.

"Indonesia has given their assurance that they will commit to a long term cooperation between TNB and coal companies in Indonesia."

Zahid said Indonesia had addressed the overlapping legislative on the matter, making it easier for TNB to have a long term investment in procuring coals in accordance to TNB's specifications.
