Brows, resurrected

With the brow resurrection technique, you can have well-defined eyebrows, writes Nadia Badarudin

SOME years ago, I had a bad experience in eyebrow grooming and thereafter, terms like classic threading, modern tweezing or colour tweaking did not pique my interest or spark my mind at all.

For me, these were nothing but pain.

When I was invited by Browhaus The Brow Salon to try its signature brow resurrection treatment, I didn’t know what to say or think.

First, resurrection was already a big word for me (Should I get my eyebrows resurrected? I didn’t think so). Secondly, I didn’t want to go for any eyebrow treatment at all because I didn’t want to be reminded of my hellish adventure and that awful feeling of guilt.

I was lucky because I managed to convince a friend (Z) to try it and satisfy her curiosity. I tagged along with her to the salon at The Curve in Petaling Jaya to write this story.

BROW ENHANCEMENT

Inspired by Bauhaus, the German art movement, Browhaus is a one-stop eyebrow and eyelash grooming concept store, meant for image-conscious urbanites who demand both function and style.

Brow resurrection is one of Browhaus’ specialties. It refers to an advanced, semi-permanent eyebrow enhancement technique that results in well-defined eyebrows.

The technology engages a skilled strand-by-strand design and lasting, vegetable-based dyes to recreate the eyebrows to a finer finish.

THE PROCESS

The treatment session for Z was carried out by trained therapist Sharon who said the treatment would normally take two hours to complete, depending on the time taken for consultation.

The consultation stage is crucial as it determines the best outcome of the eyebrows in terms of shape, definition, arch and colour.

She wanted her eyebrows to look well-groomed but not over the top. Using a black pencil, Sharon outlined the best possible shape on Z’s eyebrows.

After Z had made her choice, Sharon started to trim her eyebrows. She applied a numbing cream on both sides and left it on for 20 minutes. Then she applied the colour (Z chose a black shade which was similar to the colour of her natural eyebrows) strand by strand in careful strokes.

Sharon let the colour set in for two minutes and reapplied a second round. The whole process which took less than two hours, was done using custom-made tools that were individually sealed, sterilised and discarded after each use.

I thought the steps looked painful (or maybe it was just me and my bad experience), but Z said she didn’t feel any discomfort throughout the process.

NOT FOR ALL

The result? Z is happy with her current, resurrected eyebrows. The outcome looks naturally polished and with the least noticeable change, just like she desired.

Sharon said that Z can now spend less time to do her eye make-up. She claimed that the shape and refined eyebrows would last up to three years with proper follow-up treatment.

Despite the positive result and benefits, those contemplating the treatment will have to consider several issues which can be a letdown.

First, the cost. Treatment costs RM3,000 and the recommended post-treatment care is RM300. The products recommended for the care are sold between RM75 and RM150.

Maintenance or after-care treatments can be tedious and troublesome too as they include no prolonged contact with water on the face area for seven days as well as no facial, swimming, sauna or vigorous exercise for two weeks, among others.

The treatment is not recommended for pregnant women or those who are allergic to dyes or have pre-existing medical conditions such as diabetes or heart disease.
