PM Najib launches KL International Arts Festival

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today launched the Kuala Lumpur International Arts Festival (Diversecity 2016).

Najib, who arrived around 3pm also took time out to visit a photography exhibition organised to commemorate National Day.

The photography exhibition, which embodies the spirit of "Dirgahayu" (longevity) presents the creative works of three emerging photographers, Rahman Roslan, Ahmad Yusni and Hasnoor.

The five-week long festival, which kicks off today, will showcase the cultural heritage of Malaysia and the Southeast Asian region through the many performances spanning the genres of dance, tradition, literature, music and more.

Festival director Datin Sunita Rajakumar said this year's event features more than 50 arts and cultural happenings which will be held in 18 locations throughout Kuala Lumpur.

"Our incredible sportsmen and sportswomen (at the recent Rio Olympics) have not only achieved excellence in their field but also provided us with moments of unity. We too, are hoping that our own artists, who have achieved excellence and recognition overseas, will bring together this wonderful nation," she said.
