KUALA LUMPUR: Ev Ting did his hopes of securing a title shot no harm after downing Australian Rob Lisita in the headlining fight at ONE Championship's Unbreakable Warriors at Stadium Negara, late yesterday.
Lisita was in control in the opening stages of the lightweight bout but Ev soon settled and a knee to Lisita's face shifted the momentum to the latter.
The duo slogged out it for the remaining two rounds with both having chances to finish. Ev came out the stronger fighter, earning himself a unanimous decision win.
Ev, whose record now improves to 12 wins and three losses, said he took some time to settle into the fight.
"I took it (fight) a little personal at the start, I wanted to get the finish," said Ev, who is based in New Zealand.
"My team told me to calm down and fight smarter and that is what I did.
"I want a title shot now, this year, it does not matter who I fight."
It was a positive day for other Malaysians as well with Agilan Thani (middleweight) extending his unbeaten record to 6-0 with a confident victory over Filipino Trestle Tan via submission (rear naked choke) at 2:24s in the opening round.
The Subba brothers, who had both lost their previous fights going into Unbreakable Warriors, bounced back strongly on home soil.
Keanu (featherweight) defeated Pakistan's Waqar Umar via submission (strikes), 4:31s into the first round while Gianni (flyweight) showed his maturity against Brazil's Yago Brian Farias De Morais, carefully kicking his way into the points en route to a unanimous decision victory.
In a battle of ONE debutants, Muhammad Aiman Raziz Affindi (featherweight) took a unanimous decision win over Hisyam Samsudin.
Big names Peter Davis (lightweight) and Ann Osman (straw weight), however, did not fare as well.
Peter struggled in the first round against Thailand's Shannon Wiratchai and although he managed to land a solid punch in the second, lost via ref stoppage (strikes) 3:32s into the round.
Despite being on the backfoot for much of the opening exchanges, April Osenio (Phillipines) managed to turn the tables and defeat Ann by submission (guillotine choke), 4:21s into the first round.
