Zika: Thailand on high alert

BANGKOK: Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health has joined forces with parties concerned to speed up the eradication of breeding sources of common house mosquitoes, the carrier of the fatal Zika virus.

Thai News Agency (TNA) reports that Dr Opas Karnkawinpong, Deputy Director-General of the ministry’s Department of Disease Control, Sunday, said that among relevant parties, his ministry has coordinated with the Ministry of Interior and military units for joint operations against breeding grounds of the common house mosquitoes.

Dr Opas noted that the relevant parties, including the general public, have been asked to follow the Ministry of Public Health’s preventive measures.

According to the senior official, there has been nothing serious about Zika virus in Thailand as there has been no critical outbreak in all areas and some initially-suspected patients have been detected and properly-treated so far. --BERNAMA
