ALOR STAR: Police busted an online gaming syndicate, which was raking in RM2,000 daily, in Taman Sutera Idaman in Sungai Petani last night.
Kedah police criminal investigation chief, Senior Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nashir Ya said five men aged between 17 and 30 were arrested at the house in the 8pm raid.
He said police also seized mobile phones, laptops and desktop computers used to manage three online gaming sites.
According to Nashir, the syndicate’s modus operandi revolved around using the WeChat application to advertise the gaming sites and lure potential customers.
"When the customer clicks on the link, they will be asked to make payment to an account before they are given an ID and password to the link," said Nashir.
Nashir said the gaming syndicate, which targeted customers in Ipoh, Johor Baru and Kuala Lumpur, had been in operation since last July.
