KOTA KINABALU: The Election Commission (EC) has listed 13 proposed new state constituencies for Sabah.

The recommendations for new seats are N.02 Bengkoka, N.06 Mangaris, N.08 Pintasan, N.13 Pantai Dalit, N.17 Darau, N.24 Tanjung Dumpil, N.27 Dambai, N.44 Tulid, N.47 Telupid, N.51 Sungai Manila, N.58 Lamag, N.61 Segama, and N.70 Kukusan.

Notice of the proposed recommendations has been published in the New Straits Times.

In it, the EC also proposes to alter the names of two existing State constituencies, namely Tanjong Aru to Tanjung Aru and Tanjong Batu to Tanjung Batu.

However, there will be no alteration in the number and names of Federal constituencies in Sabah.

According to the notice, the total number of 995,729 voters in the electoral roll determined by the EC, which was endorsed and gazetted on 13 May 2016, is used for the purpose of the review of the delimitation of the Federal and State constituencies.

A copy of the proposed recommendations, along with the draft constituencies plan for Sabah, can be reviewed starting today up to Oct 14 at post offices and district offices across the state.

Any objection to the proposed recommendations shall be submitted in writing to the Sabah EC office.

In August, the state legislative assembly sitting approved a motion for the establishment of 13 new state seats. With the increase of seats, the overall total of State constituencies for Sabah will stand at 73.
