USM, Glasgow University now academic partners

GEORGE TOWN: Universiti Sains Malaysia has officially become an academic partner of Glasgow University, Scotland, which is one of the top and oldest universities in that region.

USM Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Omar Osman said today the partnership was between the universities' School of Management and Business and to increase joint research publications.

"Currently, we have more than 10 joint publications and I hope that with the new cooperation, we will work better together," he told a press conference.

With the collaboration of the two universities, USM is also planning to conduct a 2+2 programme for Management and Business students.

The university is also planning to send four to five students by 2019 to Glasgow under a student exchange programme.

Glasgow University Vice Principle and International Dean, Prof Frank Coton, who was also at the press conference, said the university was selective in forging partnership and added that USM had proven itself to be an excellent university.

"We hope that with this partnership, the quality of education of both universities will increase and, at the same time, we will look for future plans together," he said.

Besides USM, Glasgow University also works with Universiti Malaya and Universiti Putra Malaysia for research purposes. -- BERNAMA
