Gerakan vexed by EC's proposal, fears for three parliamentary seats

JOHOR BARU: Parti Gerakan will voice its objections to the Election Commission (EC) in a meeting next week over the EC’s redelineation proposal which they feel will affect their chances of winning three parliamentary seats, namely Beruas, Taiping and Teluk Intan, all in Perak.

Speaking to reporters after opening the Johor Gerakan delegates meeting here today, its president, Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, said the proposal by the EC is "far-reaching" and would affect the party's structure.

"We began working in preparation for the next general election three years ago, and have carried out simulation exercises in several areas with state and parliamentary seats where we have confidence we have a chance of winning," said Mah.

Mah said all 45 areas which are under Gerakan will be affected, including Bachang (Malacca) and Ketari (Pahang).
