MCA troubled by EC's proposal, plans division leaders meeting soon

KLANG: MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has called on all division leaders to submit their views and concerns pertaining to the Election Commission (EC)’s proposal on redelineating and renaming constituencies nationwide.

Liow said he has received much feedback from party leaders who have voiced their concerns over the redelineation exercise.

"The delineation may become extreme in heavily Malay-majority and heavily Chinese-majority constituencies.

“This is not good, as we need a multiracial mix in a constituency... only then can we win,” he told reporters after opening the MCA Kapar division's delegates' meeting here today.

Liow said he will further discuss the matter with division leaders who will be meeting him next week.

"We are in the midst of analysing the situation. We are given a month to submit our suggestions or concerns to the Election Commission.

"We will give the EC our input for their deliberation," he said.

Liow had also called on all Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties to intensify efforts and work hand-in-hand to strengthen BN.

"We have to transform BN, making it a stronger party that is relevant to the people on the ground," he added.
