Two detained over fatal shooting of painter in Setiu

SETIU: Police have detained two men to assist their probe into the murder of a 37-year-old painter, who was brutally gunned down in a house in Kampung Jelapang, here yesterday.

One of the suspects is 37 while the other is in his 40s. Both hail from the same village.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Elias Abubakar said police have obtained a seven-day remand order for the duo from the Setiu magistrate’s court.

Their remand period begins today at the Setiu police station.

“The first suspect was picked up at his house while the other suspect surrendered himself at the Setiu police station the same evening,” he said.

As of this morning, seven people including the victim's relatives and neighbours had their statements recorded to assist the probe.

On Monday, Erdy Alias from Kampung Gong Kepas, Kampung Raja in Besut, died after being shot nine times at close range at his uncle’s home in Kampung Jelapang.

Erdy’s body was found by his uncle who returned home at 4.30am.

The victim, who was alone in the house during the incident, was shot multiple times in the head, neck and other areas on his body.

Initial investigations suggest that two pistols were used by two different suspects in the killing.
