New airport tax rate effective Jan 1 next year, increase moderate

KUALA LUMPUR: New rates for the Passenger Service Charge (PSC), formerly known as airport tax, will be implemented on January 1 next year.

Details of the airport tax are still under discussion and once finalised, will be brought to the cabinet for a final decision, said Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

“The PSC is still in the discussion stage and we have made some decisions, but all these are under the purview of the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom).

“I will leave it to Mavcom to make the announcement. They have presented their views to me and we are looking at the details; we will bring it to the cabinet for the final decision,” he said after launching SJKC Bandar Sungai Long.

Liow said Malaysian airport charges are still much lower compared to other countries and will be moderate even after the increase.
