Fishing vessels to begin new life as artificial reefs

KUALA TERENGGANU: State Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) handed over three foreign fishing vessels to the Terengganu Marine Department today.

The three vessels, worth RM1.3 million, will be transformed into artificial reefs at sea.

Marine Department director Muhammad Nur Ashry Bassari received the vessels from MMEA director Captain Zainol Abidin Jusoh.

Nur Ashry said the vessels will be sunk near the Pulau Lang Tengah marine park in Besut.

"These are the first artificial reefs to be placed near Pulau Lang Tengah this year", he said.

Nur Ashry said the event will be held on Thursday.
