Traffic sweep nabs illegal racers, drunk drivers and wanted criminals

KOTA KINABALU: Police seized 12 modified vehicles, some of which were involved in illegal racing activity, during a recent traffic operation in the State capital.

Carried out on Sept 25 at Jalan Lintas and Jalan Imago here, the operation saw police arresting seven people and issuing 74 summonses for various offences under the Road Transport Act 1987.

District police chief Assistant Superintendent M. Chandra said police had received complaints that Jalan Lintas was being used as a racing track by irresponsible individuals every weekend.

“There were also complaints that groups of people often loiter on the bridge at Jalan Imago in the wee hours. It is alleged that they park their cars in the driving lanes of the road and carry out drinking activity.

“They are disrupting public order, because they are blocking the road and the area is close to the Gleneagles Hospital,” he said.

Chandra said 88 vehicles from Jalan Lintas and Jalan Imago were taken to the district police headquarters, and 12 vehicles, including a motorcycle, were seized for further investigations.
