Man caught vandalising Russian embassy CCTV.. and trying to steal road sign

KUALA LUMPUR: A man who was just released from prison after serving time for a drug offence, was detained yet again.

His crime this time? Vandalising property belonging to the Russian Embassy in KL, as well as trying to steal a road sign.

Wangsa Maju district police chief Superintendent Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif said the man, 43, had vandalised a CCTV camera at the embassy in Jalan Ampang just after midnight on Tuesday.

"The man had scaled the embassy wall and started kicking the CCTV camera several times.

"The embassy guard who was in the control room saw the incident and immediately rushed out. However, the man fled the scene."

Later that night at 9.45pm, a foreigner became embroiled in an argument with a man along Jalan Nipah. The foreigner had spotted the man trying to steal a road sign and tried to prevent him.

Police were summoned to the scene. Checks later showed that the man who had tried to steal the road sign was the same person who had vandalised the embassy's CCTV camera.

Mohamad Roy said the man, who had just been released from the Sungai Buloh Prison, had drugs related offences on his criminal record.

"We have yet to ascertain the motive of this incident. We are still awaiting an initial report from the Sungai Buloh Prison on the man's background.

"However we haven't ruled out the possibility that the man was under the influence of drugs when he vandalised the embassy property," he added.

In an unrelated case, a drug pusher who was just released from a prison, was re-arrested by police on Monday over his suspected involvement in a drugs distribution operation.

Mohamad Roy said the 29-year-old man was among three people who were picked up by police their role in the case.

"Following a tip-off, we raided an apartment in Bandar Baru Wangsa Maju here and detained the men, aged between 29 and 42.

"We also seized 135.5 gram of syabu, heroine (42.4 grams), ganja (59.5 grams), 88 Eramine 5 pills and ketamine (5.7 grams)," he said.

Mohamad Roy said all the suspects tested positive for ganja. They have been remanded for four days beginning yesterday.
