Flash floods bring misery to George Town

GEORGE TOWN: Heavy intermittent rainfall triggered flash floods in several low-lying areas here today.

The downpour started at about 1am and continued throughout the wee hours of the morning, before abating at about 9am.

Ankle-deep waters struck residential and school areas in a flood-prone suburb in the vicinity of Jalan P.Ramlee.

Cars and motorcycles were seen splashing through massive puddles near the slip roads in Sungai Pinang.

In Bukit Mertajam, a tree was felled by strong winds and landed on a vacant car parked in Taman Kijang.

Residents had to wade through floodwaters outside their apartments on their way to work.

A motorist was witnessed pushing his stalled motorcycle through floodwaters.

No one, however, was evacuated or displaced by the floods.
