Fired manager, employee, charged with making false claims

PETRA JAYA: A former manager and an ex-employee of a palm oil plantation company were charged at the Special Court for Corruption for making false claims amounting to RM7,500 earlier this year.

Mohd Sofian Abdullah and Nazri Usop, aged 46 and 39 respectively, were charged separately under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 for deceiving their principal with receipts, accounts and other documents containing false information.

Both pleaded not guilty when they were produced before Judge Nixon Kennedy Kumbong here today.

Nazri was charged with misleading his principal, Melor Gemilang Palm Oil Mill Sdn Bhd, with an invoice amounting to RM7,500.

According to the charge sheet, the invoice contained false particulars of painting and cleaning works which were never carried out.

Sofian, meanwhile, was charged with abetting Nazri in falsifying the claim.

Both Nazri and Sofian were accused of committing the offence at their office in Punda Sabal, Samarahan near here on Jan 15.

The duo, who was unrepresented, appealed for leniency before Nixon set bail at RM8,000 in one surety for each of the accused.

He also fixed Oct 31 for mention and four days for hearing beginning Nov 1.

MACC prosecuting officer Ikhwan Mohd Ibrahim prosecuted.

Both of the accused had been fired by the company when MACC began its probe into the case.
