Missing student in Paris: Parents hope to bring Nur Shakinah home

SUNGAI PETANI: Naim Awang, 45, and his wife Nor Halizah Ahmad, 44, hope to bring their daughter back to Malaysia but will only decide after they meet her in a few days.

The couple will be flying to France on Sunday morning and expected to reach Paris about 1.30pm (local time) on Monday, to meet with their daughter Nur Shakinah Naim, 19.

Nur Shakinah, a student, was reported missing from her lodge in Rouen, Normandy on September 25 and unexpectedly re-emerged at her lodge yesterday after being missing for five days.

Her housemate reported the matter to the Malaysian Embassy the same night and a report was also lodged with local authorities to locate Nur Shakinah.

Naim and his wife will be accompanied by Sungai Petani Umno division chief Mejar (R) Datuk Abdul Rahim Saad and his wife to Paris.

Rahim is sponsoring flight tickets for the couple as well as their expenses and lodging during their stay there.

According to Halizah, she has yet to ask Nur Shakinah details of her whereabouts during the five days that she was reported missing.

She said that Nur Shakinah sent messages to her on Thursday night and told her that she was doing fine.

“I only asked her if she had eaten, if she is doing okay and she only replied that she was. I do not want to probe further as I do not want to cause any discomfort to her emotion,” said Halizah.

Halizah said that as a mother, she was relieved that her daughter was found and is grateful for the assistance from Rahim who is sponsoring the flight tickets for her and her husband, lodging and also expenses during their stay in Paris.
