KUALA LUMPUR: Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) has lauded the proposal to table new laws under the Political Donations and Expenditure Act.
Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the proposal for new laws under the Act has been long overdue.
The proposal is set to be submitted to the Cabinet by the National Consultative Committee.
"This is nothing new. Even before the last general election I had mentioned that there is a need for an Act on political funding.
"However, this proposal must be supported by all parties. It would be unjust if BN is the only party to follow the Act," he told a press conference after chairing the Umno Supreme Council meeting here, today.
According to the recommendations for the new law, political donations and funding will be transparent and strictly regulated for all.
