Employers who hire, harbour illegal foreign workers to have assets & bank accounts frozen tomorrow

GEORGE TOWN: Employers who continue to hire and harbour illegal foreign workers will have their assets and bank accounts frozen effective tomorrow.

Immigration Department director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali said they have given employers ample time to abide by the laws.

He said action can be taken under the Anti-Trafficking in Person and Anti-Smuggling Of Migrants (ATIPSOM) Act 2007.

"Beginning tomorrow, strict enforcement will be taken. We will not tolerate such actions (hiring and harbouring illegal foreign workers) anymore.

"A thorough investigation will be carried out before any action is taken," he told reporters here today.

Mustafar said hiring and harbouring illegal foreign workers were serious offences.

Mustafar had recently warned that the assets of employers in the industrial sector who hire and harbour illegal foreign workers would be frozen from next month as provided for under the Act
