KUANTAN: A 13 year-old boy is feared to have drowned after he fell into Sungai Kuantan near Sungai Isap Damai housing area yesterday.
Alif Lokman Hakim Azman, a student at Maahad Bahasa Arab dan Al-Quran (Mabiq) here was believed to have slipped and fell into the river while walking along the riverbank.
Indera Mahkota Fire and Rescue Department operation chief Mohd Hilmi Kashfi said a distress call was received at 6.40pm and 24 officials and firemen were rushed to the scene for the search and rescue (SAR) operation.
"Sixteen members of the scuba unit of the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) and four members from the scuba unit were also moved to the scene to search the body," he said when contacted this morning.
He said the SAR operation resumed today and the operation would be conducted within 10 to 30 metres from the point where Hilmi slipped into the river.
“The SAR will take same times due to strong water currents,” he said.
