Kidnapped money changer, blindfolded and tied up in flat, finally rescued

GEORGE TOWN: A money changer who was kidnapped last Wednesday was rescued by police at an apartment unit in Bayan Lepas here on Sunday.

State police chief Datuk Abdul Ghafar Rajab said police detained nine people, including a woman, believed to be involved in the incident.

Ghafar said soon after the money changer was kidnapped, his family members received a call for a RM3 million ransom to secure his release.

"However, before the ransom could be paid, we received a tip-off and raided the apartment unit where we found the victim.

"When found, his hands were tied and he was blindfolded," he told newsmen today.

All the suspects have been remanded until Oct 10 to assist in investigation into the case under Section 3 of the Kidnapping Act 1961.
