Malaysia, Qatar to sign MoU next month

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia and Qatar are preparing a number of memorandum of understanding to be signed during Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Hamad Al Thani’s proposed state visit to Malaysia next month.

According to Wisma Putra statement today, the two-day visit by Qatar Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed Abdulrahman Al-Thani to Malaysia which began yesterday was part of the proposed state visit.

“The visit successfully reaffirms the excellent ties between Malaysia and Qatar and provides new impetus to those ties,” Wisma Putra added.

The statement also said during Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman’s meeting with his Qatar counterpart in Wisma Putra today, both foreign ministers shared the view that bilateral relations between Malaysia and Qatar had expanded beyond the political sphere and other areas of cooperation, especially in trade and investment.

“The two ministers expressed commitment for Malaysia and Qatar to take advantage of these close relations to establish collaboration in various economic sectors.

“Both sides also exchanged views and concerns over several regional issues namely on the Palestinian peace process, Syria and Yemen conflict as well as terrorism,” Wisma Putra added.--BERNAMA
