Pairin to leave no stone unturned in Sabah's corruption scandal investigation

KOTA KINABALU: Projects worth RM3.3 billion linked to the ongoing scandal involving two senior government officers were handled by the Rural and Regional Development Ministry and the Sabah Water Department, Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said in a statement.

However, he reassured that his ministry would leave no stone unturned in investigating the two officers suspected of corruption and abuse of power.

Pairin who is also Sabah Infrastructure Development Minister said he was shocked when he heard of the arrest.

He stated that the infrastructure projects in question come under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development and the allocations were channelled directly to the State Water Department as it is the implementing agency.

Pairin also said the procurement of the projects and the payments were handled by the Rural and Regional Development Ministry and the State Water Department.

β€œIn light of this development, my ministry will study and propose an appropriate reporting system, so that we will be kept in the loop,” he said.

He added his ministry would extend its full cooperation to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in investigating the case where over RM115 million (currently) has been recovered in cash as well as jewellery, luxury cars, designer items, and 127 land titles, among others, from the Sabah Water Department director and his deputy.
