The Rockaway Festival to feature over 30 local and international acts

GET ready, rockers! The Rockaway Festival, said to be the biggest rock festival, is back after a three year hiatus.

Rahul Kukreja, director of live events, Livescape Group says: “I think fans, not only from Malaysia but also regionally, are going to be very excited.”

More than 30 local and international acts will take to the stage during the festival, which is divided into the Rockaway Weekender and Rockaway The Saga Continues.

The two-day Rockaway Weekender will be held on Oct 29 and 30 at B Hillstand Sepang International Circuit, and will feature legendary german rock band Scorpion,Wings and Muzza’s Mayhem.

On the second day, fans can rock away to the likes of Wolfmother (Australia), and regional acts such as Daarchlea and Artefacts. Rumour has it that one or two more international acts will be headlining the second day so look out for more announcements from the organisers.

Rockaway The Saga Continues will see a more elaborate lineup. Set for Nov 19 at the Extreme Park in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, among them are One Buck Short, The Summer State, Dirgahayu, Taking Back Sunday, Toko Kilat, The Get Up Kids, Son of a Policeman and Third Eye Blind.

There will also be a collaboration between the founding members of OAG and Hujan where they will be sharing a stage in a “band battle”.

Local band Butterfingers will also take to the stage as it makes its long-awaited comeback after seven years,Its last album, Kembali, was released in 2010.

In previous years, the festival had featured an interesting line-up of international rock bands such as Dashboard Confessional, You Me At Six and Sum 41.

Both events are supported by Malaysia Major Events (MME), a division of Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), an agency under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia.

“Rockaway will help attract a significant number of foreign tourists, complementing the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia’s efforts to achieve 36 million tourists arrivals and RM168 billion tourism receipts by the year 2020,” says Tony Nagamaiah, general manager of MME.
