Accused Movida nightspot bombers retract guilty pleas

PETALING JAYA: A factory operator and an unemployed man who had initially pleaded guilty to attempted murder of eight people and possession of a hand grenade retracted their guilty pleas at the Sessions Court today.

On July 25, Imam Wahyudin Karjono, 20, and Jonius Ondie @ Jahali, 24, are alleged to have committed all nine offences in the bombing of the Movida nightspot with a hand grenade, which injured eight people, and possessing a hand grenade at Movida Boulevard Sdn Bhd, Lot G2 & 3, Ground Floor, IOI Boulevard, Jalan Kenari 5 in Bandar Puchong, Puchong at about 2am on June 28.

Judge Azwarnida Affandi fixed Nov 14 for mention.

Imam is represented by Fareida Mohd and Wong Kar Fai, while Jonius is represented by Aaron Mark Pius and Joan Sia. Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P. Kunyalam prosecuted.

It was reported that the Movida nightspot bombing was the first ever successful IS attack on Malaysia.

According to police, the Movida nightspot was the second option for the terrorists, as the initial target was closed that day.
