ACCA redesigns master's qualification to meet 21st century needs

KUALA LUMPUR: The ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) has taken the initiative of redesigning its master’s-level qualification so that it meets the demands of the 21st century.

The innovative redesign which will have an effect on the future of accountancy was unveiled this past week.

ACCA chief executive Helen Brand said the “groundbreaking” redesign involved an extensive, two-year review and consultation with members, employers and learning providers.

“The qualification is being tailored to meet the strategic challenges of today’s disruptive economy, by giving students the forward-thinking strategic abilities and advanced skills set required of modern professional accountants who will shape the future of global business,” she said.

“At the same time, it maintains the rigorous standards of technical, ethical and professional skills that have established ACCA as the international benchmark for accountancy qualifications.

“These measures are important as they will ensure that the rigour and relevance of the qualification remains central to ACCA’s offering in emerging, as well as established, markets.”

ACCA’s top-level qualification is introducing the new Strategic Professional level exams that will replace the existing Professional level exams, effective Sept 2018.

There will also be a new Ethics and Professional Skills module, which will be introduced in October 2017.
