(Badminton) Malaysia commands the court at the Taiwan Masters

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s women's doubles Lim Yin Loo-Yap Cheng Wen and Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean did well to qualify for the semi-finals of the Taiwan Masters today.

Yin Loo-Cheng Wen, playing in only their second tournament together, produced a superb performance in the quarter-finals when they upset second seeds Poon Lok Yan-Tse Ying Suet of Hong Kong 11-5, 11-9, 11-4.

Mei Kuan-Meng Yean were made to slog by Japanese duo Ayako Sakuramoto-Yukiko Takahata, but still walked away with a 15-14, 13-11, 9-11, 9-11, 11-9 win.

Currently, Malaysia's second ranked pair, Mei Kuan-Meng Yean face top seeds Yuki Fukushima-Sayaka Hirota of Japan next for a place in the final.

In men's singles, independent shuttler Liew Daren also did well with a 11-8, 11-3, 11-2 win over Indonesia's Shesar Hiren Rhustavito.

Daren, who now represents Petaling BC, will take on fifth seed Lin Yu Hsien of Taiwan in the semi-finals.

It was the end of the road for women's singles Tee Jing Yi though, who lost 11-6, 11-7, 11-6 to Thailand's Pornpawee Chochuwong.
