Couple go ahead with wedding plans in spite of high tide phenomenon

KLANG: A couple whose wedding was planned for today at Kampung Tok Muda in Kapar here are going ahead with their ceremony in spite of the forecasted high-tide phenomenon.

Floods are expected to inundate the bridegroom's village due to the unusual high-tide phenomenon expected early this morning.

Juniharyono Jakpar, 26, who tied the knot with 24 year-old Izzatul Khafawati Osman in a solemnisation ceremony last month, said they decided to go ahead despite the risk, as the event had been planned much earlier.

Juniharyono said his family and relatives have dug a simple trench near their house as a precautionary measure to ward off the flood.

"Based on our experience during last month's high-tide phenomenon, the flood here only saw water rise up calf-high at the back of our house, while in front, it was only about ankle-deep.

"Whatever happens, we are going ahead with the ceremony.

"Just in case, we have also prepared a back-up plan, including to adjust the height of our pelamin (wedding dais).

Juniharyono, or Muttakin as he's usually called by his family, said his relatives and friends are also on standby mode – monitoring the situation through the night for any eventualities.

The groom also expressed his hope that the flood would not happen.

His mother, Orliyah Sali, who is in her late 40s, said she had been praying to God for the ceremony to go ahead smoothly and without any untoward incident.

She said the ceremony is the first wedding to be organised by her family, as Juniharyono is her eldest child.
