Get inspired by The Real MVP: The Wanda Durant Story, true tale of a mother's dedication

LIFETIME (Astro Channel 709) is airing the inspiring movie The Real MVP: The Wanda Durant Story today at 9pm.

Starring Cassandra Freeman, Sinqua Walls, and Daniel Bellomy, it tells the true story of the mother of NBA great Kevin Durant and her dedication in raising one of the greatest basketball players in the world.

As a single mum of two by the time she was just 21, Wanda tirelessly worked to make ends meet and put a roof over the heads of her young sons. She focused all her energy on her boys, selflessly putting aside her own dreams and desires to make sure their goals could be achieved.

Her hard work paid off as Tony earned basketball scholarships while Kevin headed to the National Basketball Association. When Kevin was named NBA’s Most Valuable Player, he dedicated his speech to Wanda, naming her “the real MVP” for all of her sacrifices that allowed him to pursue his dreams.

Another movie, Stealing Chanel will air on Oct 26 at 9pm and stars Adam LaVorgna, Lydia Hearst and Carol Alt. A compulsive thief of designer clothing in Manhattan is forced into a rehabilitation programme with a frumpy heiress and court-appointed psychologist.

Also on Lifetime is the second season of Man Vs Child: Chef Showdown, airing Thursdays at 9pm starting tomorrow.

A team of child cooking prodigies will challenge a prolific executive-level chef in the kitchen, where they will defend their culinary abilities. This time around, season one regulars — Cloyce, 14, Emmalee, 13, Estie, 8, and Holden, 15, will be joined by newcomers Isiah, 10, Olivia, 11, and Zion, 10.

After defeating multiple executive chefs in season 1, the children’s confidence levels are way up. But this season, the competition is fiercer and no one is holding back, especially the professionals.

The tables have been turned and the chefs have learnt that no child, no matter how young, should be underestimated.
