Education Minister baffled: How did photos of pupil in freak scissors incident go viral?

PUTRAJAYA: The Selangor Education Department will carry out a full investigation on the freak accident that left a Year 6 pupil with a pair of scissors embedded in his head.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, did not want to comment on the incident, stating instead he was more baffled that the boy’s photo was going viral online.

“I am not sure how the incident took place, really, so we will let the state department investigate.

“The boy is lucky, the scissors did not poke his eyes.

“However since it happened in the school, clearly there was an individual, who posted the photos online,” he said, adding that such practice should not take place.

On the possibility of one of the students in the class taking the photo, Mahdzir said it was best for the investigation to take place first.

He was speaking to reporters after launching the National Language Month today.

On Wednesday, the boy from Sekolah Kebangsaan Khir Johari was in the midst of a post Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) activity with his classmates when the incident occurred.

It was reported that a school staff said the boy had gotten up from his chair and wanted to make his way to another part of the lab with a pair of scissors suddenly tripped over a chair and fell to the ground.

The scissors had somehow pierced his eyebrow, narrowly missing his right eye.
